Just wanted to share this.... if you are interested in some in-depth consideration of the Hollanderian version of Don Juan, have a look at this. Includes rehearsal pictures. One caution: be sitting down before you click. Click!Thank you Dr. Content. I don't know about anyone else here but I find I must ALWAYS be sitting down when I see anything Don Juan related. And, if I ever find that time machine and can only use it once...

I thought I would share this with you as it is an interesting audio discussion of the play in which they praise Tom's "landmark" performance. It is about 12 minutes in length. Theatre VoiceEnjoy!

Me and My Friend Thank you Irene! Kean, or Disorder and Genius As You Like It War and Peaces Summerfolk Cloud Nine Love's Labour's Lost Cyrano de Bergerac Sheep Go Bare [revue]
All in the name of research you know...plus there are often some great images from the productions:

So far I have only seen Landscape with Weapon and THAT was a treat. After hearing about how they went all out for the food fight on the table on the last night my only regret was not taking Don up on his offer to go twice. What was a thinking? Actually I gave it up so he could see Rosamund Pike in Gaslight and THAT was good too. And I could have missed Orlando's stage debut as well but that was after LWW closed so we can't blame him. I don't suppose seeing Hotel in Amsterdam BBC TV edition counts because it was not "live" but it sure was fantastic. It was definitely Tom "center stage."

I've been tidying up some of the content over at our sister site and spending some time with the Josephine Hart Poetry Hour. Tom has taken part in the readings at least three times, most recently in 2005, reading Keats and Shelley with Sir Bob Geldof at the British Library (or at least I think that's the most recent). Then I had one of those D'Ohhhh!! moments, finding a place where one could download one of the readings , but it's been taken down ! I'd so love to find this: - Poetry with Josephine Hart: War Poets Reading with Joseph Fiennes and Friends. At the Apollo Theatre. 2001.
It had been posted on a Joseph Fiennes site. I wonder if any of these readings are available anywhere? Several have been added to the British Library Sound Archives.... wishing... Oh man! Tease us why don't you. Just kidding Dr. Content. Now you know how I felt standing at the desk of the British Library and having a very nice young lady tell me that I needed to be a "registered" user AND make an appointment... must remember to find out about that ...or kidnap PE to go with us. I bet she is registered.

I bet his voice and style would be great for some Charles Dickens' novels! note: I can't type Charlie's last name as this board has a ban on the word dick. Mods, you can change that if you want in the admin panel. Oh yes...I agree. Sorry about the censorship...I didn't know it was like that. I just fixed it...testing it out in your quote here...

There's even an earlier audiobook for A Clockwork Orange that's read by Jack Davenport. Hmm, which book would I like Tommy to read? Hehe, how about Wives and Daughters by Gaskell or Little Women by Alcott? Good ones! I need to read Wives & Daughters. Such a stack of reading I have!

Now, don't laugh, but I would love for him to read "The Thornbirds" {my best friend's dad when I was school used to tease me and call it "The horny birds} *Tee-hee, but the book is much more in depth than the movie although I loved the movie too! Oh good one topaz! I agree. Excellent book. He can probably even pull off a decent Aussie accent. What am I saying? Of course he can.

I hate to be the voice of reason but all the Nick Hornby books are already voiced & Ewan did LWD himself, didn't he (or was that just LWR?). We'd have think of something not yet covered. There is a certain effortless precision to his voice that lends itself certain styles of writing. I'll have a little think...... .....oh I know - the Telephone Directory........start when you like, Tom Ya...I knew that they were already "read" by others and in fact there seems to be a version of About a Boy that is read by Julian Rhind-Tutt. It is hard to find on CDs though (hint, hint...let me know if you can find it there and I will pay you to get me a copy.) BUT...the thing is I have found that many audio books have more than one version. Irene can attest to this as she has had problems buy the Bill Nighy version of several items. In the case of In the Company of the Courtesan you can mistakenly order a version that is read by Richard Grant! Nothing against Richard and lovely if you happen to want that version, but if you really NEED to hear Tommy then it could be a big disappointment. I think I also ran across a version that was narrated by some woman. I can't help but wonder why the publishers do this other than just giving the public a choice. And you are right PE...he can start in on the phonebook anytime. Or bicycle assembly instructions...anything. Sigh
