Hi - Can I ask...is Rufus..Rufus Sewell? .....just wondering as I do quite like Rufus too....is it? Thanks I think so...though I have not seen him yet and Uke said she heard his part was cut to fairly small. Tom is in part 4. It is fun that they keep referring to him though...(God save the King). We watched parts 1 & 2 last night and it is very well done. It does confirm that I was not as much attention in my US History lessons though...hehe

If you have HBO remember that John Adams begins tonight. Although Tom is not supposed to show up until episode 4 I thought I would post this today as a reminder. "...Adams is forced to behave against his strongest instincts and bow before the monarch (a wonderfully weird cameo by Tom Hollander). But he stands tall verbally and effects a halting reconciliation of almost unbearable poignancy."The rest of it is Here[/b]

Tom AND Rufus?! I'm going to have to get my hands on this somehow... It is supposed to be on Netflix at some point. At least it is listed in the "Save" category so I imagine you will be able to buy it. You are in the UK though, right? Do you have a region free player?

I watched the "making of John Adams" last night. No Tommy in that but then I did not expect to see him. I hate to admit it but it looks pretty good so I will probably sit through all 7 episodes. If you go to the website for the show there is a little timeline at the bottom and I find it so terribly disrespectful and annoying that when you click on the picture that shows him as the King you do not get the little "actor" bio that you get with the other characters. Grrrrrr.
And do you not agree that the wig is really ratty looking compared to the number he wore as Beckett? Looks like a bad Halloween costume. But then that is probably part of the "realism" they are trying to achieve.

Thank you for finding those pics PE. I was really tired (still not completely recovered here) and I never got as far as searching all the "Parts". I updated Thomagination this morning with the announcement in the scrolling marquee. This will be hard for me to watch as I am not a big fan of either Paul Giamatti or Laura Linney. Here is another odd thing...last week I was in the post office and they have a huge display for this program. I was walking out and stopped for a second. I am not sure what I was thinking but I thought of Tom (I do that a lot) and something in me made me curious. Must have been ESP. Edited later: "...The American Revolution may have been glorious, but it wasn't pretty. So the creators of "John Adams" wanted to make sure their coming HBO miniseries about one of the Founding Fathers captured the grittiness of the time period. The actors wore little makeup. Often their hair was kept dirty. Their costumes weren't neat and pressed. And dim interiors were lit by flickering candles. This "John Adams" aims to be more like 1776 than "1776," the musical. "Our joke was, we will view ourselves as successful if John Adams ends up on the money, if he gets a bill of his own," says actor Tom Hanks, an executive producer of the miniseries. "He's got a coin, but that's not exactly the same thing."... Here is a making of article: Adams' miniseries goes for gritIt also says that there is a making of documentary on Tuesday...that is TODAY. The article says it is on at 9:30 but when Don set ours up to record it was 8:30...so check your local listings if you don't want to miss it!

I just stumbled on this...Tom in the cast of John Adams? As King George III? He is only listed in this one article...not in the official HBO website nor the IMDb. Can we believe this or will it fall under the category of "little mysteries"? Posted at Yahoo: www.catholic.org/ae/tv/review.php?id=27061Here is the Official site: John AdamsIt says this was filmed during Feb-May of 2007. Tom was doing LWW at that time and I would think that when we talked with him he would have mentioned it. Uke might be interested to know that Rufus is in it as Alexander Hamilton.

ooh and also, i recieved my new copy of The Libertine the other day, and while watching the deleted scenes ii showed our lovely Tom with no wig, about to have his way with the fine actress Elizabeth after her performance. He really does have a way with women.....the coin in the clevage is quite the turn on....Anyone else seen that? Oh...I need to look at that again. (REVISED after looking at my DVD) Stockhollander...I do not know what you are talking about unless you have a different version of the DVD there is no deleted scene like that. There is a scene backstage with Charles and a coin in the cleavage...but it is not deleted and Tom is not wigless (he is in the background with another "actress"). Is it in the "making of"? I would have remembered it...I have seen the film at least 20 times and shamelessly went to the theatre seven times! Now I am really curious. I do know that if you watch the "making of stuff" you get to see these lovely images. In the top one he speaks in an Italian accent and the bottom...well... who does not love to see Tom laugh?:

Anyone else here have the DVD? If you do make sure you watch the deleted scenes. The first one is Tom and Samantha and explains why he said this in the Pirates interview with Film Focus:
TH: Well, I've just done a bit in The Golden Age, which is the second Elizabeth, with Cate Blanchett, which is Shekhar Kapur directing again. I acted with Samantha Morton who was being very brilliant as Mary Queen of Scots. I was playing her jailor who was sort-of in love with her but not really.
Gives his character a completely different direction which is probably why they deleted it. Anyway...it is a must see.

My DVD was shipped yesterday from good old Amazon but let me just say that I think Tom's talent was wasted in this film. I liked it but there should have been more of him. But then we say that about every Hollander role don't we.BTW...I was chastised elsewhere (many of you will recall) for saying to go see it for the costumes. Sorry. Can't help it. They were amazing. The film was not as spectacular as I hoped it would be but that was not Tommy's fault. The official website was far more impressive than the film in my opinion.

**ADDED ** LATER ** This is from an interview with Jamie Foxx -- talking about his cello teacher.. Wonder if it's the same guy that might be teaching Tom??"....The cello lessons are incredible. For one thing, this guy who shows me how to play, is nothing like you'd think. "He shows up, he's on a Ninja motorcycle, he's a good-looking, fitAsian dude, and then he starts playing the cello. And there are people at my house, some ladies, and when he plays, the women ... well, they swoon. And I said, 'I gotta learn this right now!'" That was great Irene. FYI...On Richard and Judy Tom said that Caroline Dale was his instructor.

Not sure just how accurate this news is but the wrap date for The Soloist is supposed to be April 21. It comes from Baseline Studio Systems which has tons of information if you subscribe (we got a trial) but Tom's info page is really pitiful (it lists his "next film" as being The Announcement! Ha. Um...that was 2001.

I found some nice stuff about The Soloist today... no mention of our Tommy but I think we are in for a treat. From an interview with Jamie Foxx: Question: Your next project The Soloist sounds very interesting. What can you tell us about it? Foxx: The director, Joe Wright, with Atonement is the youngest filmmaker to ever open up the Venice International Film Festival. The Soloist is about a schizophrenic guy who lives underneath the freeway. L.A. Times columnist Steve Lopez has a wreck on his bicycle, hears this beautiful music coming from a violin with two strings. He sees this guy and writes a story about him, and the next thing you know they get this bond. It’s beautiful. It’s one of those pieces where you go, “Wow.” I’m learning to play the cello and violin. We went downtown to where he [Nathaniel Ayers] lives, and this guy is still posh, even within his situation. Before he sleeps, he cleans the whole area; he pays attention to detail like you wouldn’t believe. And not to give the whole thing away, but when he plays, that’s what drowns out the voices in his head. Oscar murmurings here..."...The next juggernaut to watch out for has to be DreamWorks' "The Soloist," from "Atonement" helmer Joe Wright. Word has it that Jamie Foxx has dropped a lot of weight to play a Juliard trained musician with dreams of performing at L.A.'s Disney Concert Hall, while Robert Downey, Jr. will support as LA Times columnist Steve Lopez. Watch out..."www.incontention.com/2008/02/looking_ahead_the_2008_yearina.htmlAnd here..."...So there you have it, the ten films to watch in the coming year. Of course, there could be plenty of surprises (like Atonement director Joe Wright’s The Soloist, starring Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr...."www.filmschoolrejects.com/opinions/the-top-ten-oscar-contenders-for-2008.php
