Today’s show – Thursday 14th FebruaryTom Hollander, star of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films and ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’ joins Richard & Judy to talk about his latest venture: ‘Freezing’. It is a modern, urban comedy about what happens when fame and promise start to fade away. Look at that beautiful smile!

Ah well, I shall be recording that day anyway. Perhaps it was pre-recorded and Danny just assumed it was aired the same day. Fingers still gently crossed. Bless you! Perhaps that is the case. I am wondering where the person who reported it could have gotten the info anyway. All very mysterious.

Well I hope it is repeated. I feel so utterly deflated over this. As if we invited him to a party and he said he was coming but then changed his mind... At least I will read the book. Imagining Tom's voice reading, as I so often do. It looks good if the first chapter is any indication. Danny was sure nice to answer me...and so quickly too.

LATE BREAKING News...of the disappointing variety... this will teach me to believe stuff I read at a certain henhouse...After I posted (below) I got an email from Danny, the author (see below). I wanted to tell him how much I enjoyed the first chapter and I also had inquired as t whether there would be an audio version...(hint, hint). Hi Deb Actually the programme was aired on 16th January and Tom was a guest and yes he was very positive about the book. Unfortunately I have already recorded the audio book myself but I am sure he would have done a better job than me. Best Danny ScheinmannSo...apparently we have missed it. And it was on my anniversary too! Original Post:Over in the "Freezing" thread we were disussing Tom's upcoming appearance (scheduled for Feb 14). Upon further investigation we have discovered that the reason he is appearing is to review the current book that is featured. It is called Random Acts of Heroic Love by Danny Scheinmann. Tom Hollander Also reviewing this week’s title is Tom Hollander, who has starred in Gosford Park, Pirates of the Caribbean and Elizabeth the Golden Age. Richard & JudyAs I have never seen this show I have no idea what it is like...I have been told that most will not admit to watching...however...we are not adverse to watching anything that may have Tommy sitting in the guest chair giving his opinions... ...are we?Incidentally...if you go to Danny's (beautifully done website) you can read the first chapter. Needless confession: I ordered the book.Looking forward to this.

His hair looks lovely and fluffy today! And did you notice?...he shaved...sort of PE, you should go to Elizabeth's gig!! I would think it is quite possible that Tom will go to that (seeing how he is the one who mentioned the venue...) ETA: oh hang on, she actually plays with her band every wednesday in the Castle pub in W11. Maybe she is there now...

PE, will you be able to record that R&J interview for us? I've placed a request on The Box but no response as of yet. You know it! I'm such a media-tart! I have not yet mastered the technique for making a P2P upload and they only accept the entire show rather than clips so I might have to make a .mov and put it on a YouSendIt. PE...we love that you are a "media-tart" Thank you in advance! xx btw...(she asks naively) what is a P2P upload?

I am glad you liked it. I thought it was alright...not the greatest, which is why it is not "out there" and widely available, but Tom was good in it. But then he is good in everything he does. Those people were certainly messed up. I particularly like when "Ben" comes in and says "Debs said it was open house" I have that for my chat sound when people come online.

Aww, I took no offense...although I was quite pleased that Jack was mentioned on the poster...but it is lame that Tom gets no loving... However, if you catch The Very Thought of You on Starz, then Tom is listed as a main star and Joseph Fienes is NOT... Well THAT is good news! After all who can resist this...?

I am constantly perplexed when Tom is not listed in the promotion of films. I can understand it if it is a very small role but was Lord Beckett not one of the main villains in the last two POTC films? He had more screen time than Jonathan Pryce and even Jack Davenport in AWE ( sorry Erica). I know it is probably a contract thing and if for some reason he gets paid more if he is NOT listed then that is good for him...but to me it feels like he is being ignored. Topaz!! I had to leave England a few years ago....(gosh - that sounds like I'm on the run or something LOL!) But seriously....I left a few years ago and decided to discover my ancestors and live in Motherland if you like....Cyprus, a small island in the Med.....but I was born and brought up in a small Somerset town between Bristol and Bath....and I miss the fun I had, and I miss the times I shares with my friends, and the wonderous places we use to visit, I miss the shopping, I miss the TV, I miss the way things were so 'ordered', I miss the theatre, and the culture in general. Oops....we were talking about Tom weren't we? LOL! It is like what Tom said in that "My London" interview when asked what he missed when he was away. His response was "The possibilities."

It certainly was a brilliant evening...and that line about Steve Mangan Irish dancing made me laugh! (I love Steve as well as Tom ). The play Tom was involved in was definitely the best one though. You were so lucky to have seen that. Someday...

Hehe. This is lame. Someone should film as they shoot it, and put it on DVD. You know, like some Broadway shows do? That is probably never going to happen. Sometimes the record for archiving purposes of the theatre company but not for general consumption. Think about it...there would be no purpose in live theatre if people knew they could wait for the eventual DVD release. Besides, there is nothing to compare to seeing actors on a stage. The performance fleeting and captured in the minds of the audience. And think of how it is for the actors getting immediate gratification (or not...hehe) for their performance. Other times we get lucky and the do a TV version as in The Hotel in Amsterdam. Sigh...If you have not experienced a live stage performance then you are in for a treat. It is amazing and wonderful. As much as I love Tom's film performances I would much rather watch him on stage. Save your money for a trip to London someday. You will never forget it.
