Ange, how do you feel about the American accent? Attractive at all? I find any accent that's not American super sexy (due to being American, I'm sure), so I've always wondered if there were any non Americans out there that find our yank speaking to be a draw.

Sara
Sadly I can't say that I find any American accent particularly attractive, but then there are many in Britain that jar too. Many of the Scottish accents are very nice, some of the soft southern Irish accents, but definitley not the northern Irish ones which are very harsh. The Newcastle and Birmingham areas are not very nice, at least not to my ear...but then a broad Yorkshire accent is not attractive either.
My own accent is fairly neutral (as are those from both sides of my family), but not as posh as Tom's. I really am astonished at how much Tom and Neil sound so similar. Lucky me!!
French and Italian accents are soft and sexy, not keen on the South African, but the Australian isn't a million miles away, and that, along with kiwi can be quite attractive, as long as it's not too whiny and nasal.
Does any of that make sense? It's all terribly subjective after all.

That all makes total sense. I have yet to meet anyone who found an American accent attractive who wasn't American already (some of us like the New York variations, some like the Southern variations, etc.), so I'm always curious to hear from someone in another country. I suppose I'll just have to settle with the knowledge that no one outside of the U.S. will ever be attracted to me for my natural accent. Fortunately I'm brilliant and talented so it all evens out.

So you're saying I *shouldn't* have that voice box surgery I scheduled to make me sound like Kate Winslet?

Such a brilliant and talented woman doesn't need to sound like Kate, though I suppose a voice coach and elocution lessons may well be much cheaper, and rather less painful.

And here's where my profession sometimes gets the better of me. I just finished the first disc of The Lieutenant and while I am adoring the story, the sound quality makes me want to jump off the ferry boat I ride to and from work everyday! Here's a man with a gorgeous voice and it sounds like he's inside a tin box! Especially coming from Courtesan where the Time Warner audio engineer obviously expended some effort lovingly bringing out the warmth of Tom's lower range while paring off just enough of his mid to keep it sounding full in our ears.
Hachette needs a new engineer stat. Or better yet, Tom should just have a one on call that he takes with him to all of his voice over appointments. I know someone who would be happy to apply for the position.

Sara I was surprised at the difference in sound quality too, having come straight from Courtesan where he is positively purring. I suppose just a s we all see the world in a slightly different way, so the same must apply to hearing. Nevertheless, it could have been much better quality and without the blurring of some words. But what exactly would that position be?
