I would LOVE him to read Lord of the Rings. Just hearing his sumptuous voice pouring over Tolkien's breathtaking detail. Pure deliciousness.
To tell the truth, I'd like him to read anything in my collection (my bedroom is practically a library)...DH Lawrence's Lady Chatterley's Lover would be rather nice, as would anything by Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters. I would also love to hear him read ancient classics like Homer's Illiad, Odyssey and Virgil's The Aeneid. Mainly because it would give me an excuse to think about him in Grecian Armour...yum. Also, I think he would put a lot of power into anything written by Sara Douglass (fantastic fantasy author...she lives about thirty minutes from my house!!). Harry Potter is an obvious one. I would derive extreme enjoyment when he read out the Severus Snape parts...*sigh*
Okay, I'll stop there...you just got me thinking about it and I couldn't stop!!!
P.S. Deb - you should read Wives and Daughters. It's fantastic. The only problem is that Gaskell died before she finished writing it, so it ends rather abruptly.
P.P.S...here's a thought...Imagine him reading Longitude, Chronometer and Meridian!!!

P.P.S...here's a thought...Imagine him reading Longitude, Chronometer and Meridian!!! OMG! I think i would have a heart attack hearing him read those 3..... thinking about how he portrays different characters so well, even women, it would be interesting to hear what voice he would give Larry....something stern im guessing... ..... When im reading them i can hear his "Beckett Voice" for his parts anyway hahah i just thought, i bet he would do Norry as a real winy voice...haha...and probably sigh a lot.... ....this train of thought is delicious!

P.P.S...here's a thought...Imagine him reading Longitude, Chronometer and Meridian!!! Funny you should mention that...Mel and I often muse about it. Maybe we can take up a collection and hire him through Another Tongue. Nice to dream isn't it?

^^ I would donate money for that if he agreed to read them in a studio in say...cough...Hobart??? He could come here, go..."wow! this place is amazing (except for all the bogans), I might just stick around for a while". Then I could be his tour guide. Ooookay! Yes, it is a very nice dream! Almost as good a dream as walking into the local bookshop and seeing all three, beautifully published with Deb's cover work etc...

A couple of excellent books for him to adorn with his mellifluous tones would be, The Far Pavillions by M M Kaye, set in 19thC India, an epic tale of war and romance; and Vikram Seth's A Suitable Boy. Which also happens to extremely long...a positive advantage for the swooning listener.
