I was listening to a podcast about audio books. One of the guys said that he sometimes likes to laugh out loud and highly recommended Douglas Adams' Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I loved the books but hated the movie...well didn't hate it but I fell asleep... (sorry Irene...it was not Bill)So...I got to thinking it would be fun to hear our Tommy read that one. Of course I still want to hear something extremely seductive come through my headphones but humor is good too. What would YOU like to hear him read? Maybe someone will hear us... some of my suggestions would be the Nick Hornby books ( About a Boy, High Fidelity, Long Way Down...others), he really should have read the Harry Potter books (think of the hours..days...of listening pleasure! I wonder if he will ever read any of the George McDonald Fraser books that he claims to like reading. Those would be fun too and there are tons of them. Too bad we couldn't take up a collection and hire him to read books of our choice. Hmmm....I wonder what it would cost...?

I hate to be the voice of reason but all the Nick Hornby books are already voiced & Ewan did LWD himself, didn't he (or was that just LWR?). We'd have think of something not yet covered. There is a certain effortless precision to his voice that lends itself certain styles of writing. I'll have a little think...... .....oh I know - the Telephone Directory........start when you like, Tom

I'll have a little think...... .....oh I know - the Telephone Directory........start when you like, Tom Ya...I knew that they were already "read" by others and in fact there seems to be a version of About a Boy that is read by Julian Rhind-Tutt. It is hard to find on CDs though (hint, hint...let me know if you can find it there and I will pay you to get me a copy.) BUT...the thing is I have found that many audio books have more than one version. Irene can attest to this as she has had problems buy the Bill Nighy version of several items. In the case of In the Company of the Courtesan you can mistakenly order a version that is read by Richard Grant! Nothing against Richard and lovely if you happen to want that version, but if you really NEED to hear Tommy then it could be a big disappointment. I think I also ran across a version that was narrated by some woman. I can't help but wonder why the publishers do this other than just giving the public a choice. And you are right PE...he can start in on the phonebook anytime. Or bicycle assembly instructions...anything. Sigh

Now, don't laugh, but I would love for him to read "The Thornbirds" {my best friend's dad when I was school used to tease me and call it "The horny birds} *Tee-hee, but the book is much more in depth than the movie although I loved the movie too!

Oh good one topaz! I agree. Excellent book. He can probably even pull off a decent Aussie accent. What am I saying? Of course he can.

There's even an earlier audiobook for A Clockwork Orange that's read by Jack Davenport.
Hmm, which book would I like Tommy to read?
Hehe, how about Wives and Daughters by Gaskell or Little Women by Alcott?

I bet his voice and style would be great for some Charles D*ckens' novels!
note: I can't type Charlie's last name as this board has a ban on the word d*ck. Mods, you can change that if you want in the admin panel.

A co-worker told me today that celebrities are starting to lend their voices to GPS systems. I would not mind if I had Tommy telling where to go all day. Yes, with price of gas it would be a little foolish, but hey! I did send all the way to London for one of his audiobooks and so on and so on........

Don's Mini Cooper speaks with a British accent. I told him if I ever get a new car that has a navigation system that talks it will have to be Tom's voice. It is fun to listen to the different ways they say things. Don's car, "Katrina", says things like "straight on to the motorway." I still want Tom to record my voicemail message on my phone...

Hmmm...What books would I love Tom to lend his awesomely lovely voice to? Hmmmm.... A Spot of Bother by Mark Haddon would be a shoe-in. And for a classical bent, a thick collection of Dickens wouldn't be unwelcome, as someone has already mentioned. OH, and the Gormenghast Trilogy! Oh, he'd be perfect for some Peake! .
