I cannot believe I found it... Redwine's discussion of Portobello reminded me of Tom's turn at the "My London" page in the Evening Standard Magazine. I googled and googled and could not find it anywhere. I was just about to make a post here about which issue it was in and maybe we can find it on eBay (if you guys hadn't seen it before) but then I thought to do search of my computer and lo and behold, I saved it. I don't usually save articles. Go figure...
My London: TOM HOLLANDER
Evening Standard (London), Sep 23, 2005 by ALISTAIR DUNCAN
Where do you live and why?
Portobello Road. I always wanted to live there because it's so fashionable. I thought it would make me feel good about myself.
How long have you lived there?
Five years. They've been amazing.
What was the last play you saw in London and did you enjoy it?
I hated it so much I can't possibly say what it was, but it was in the West End. Here's a clue: 'Let's get a celebrity who is looking for credibility and disguise their incompetence by casting alongside them some experienced theatre actors and then publicise it as a great theatrical event.'
What advice would you give to a tourist?
Don't bother with Madame Tussaud's.
Who is in your secret address book?
The Cut Price Store, a convenience store run by Mohammed and Taz, which is on Portobello Road; the Cash and Carry on Golborne Road; Bliss, an organic and vegetarian cafe on Portobello Road; and Fresco, a Lebanese restaurant on Westbourne Grove.
What do you miss most when you're out of London?
The possibilities.
What are your favourite home comforts? Where do you go to buy them?
An enormous fluffy sheepskin beanbag by a company called Made. And my girlfriend Dixie Chassay definitely not for sale.
What are your extravagances?
Restaurants: EO in Notting Hill, The Cow on Westbourne Park Road and The Wolseley in Piccadilly are my favourites.
Also, aeroplane tickets.
What is your life philosophy?
Live a life that you can live with.
What are your current projects?
I'm trying to throw out the junk that's stored under my bed. I've just played Mr Collins in Pride Prejudice with Keira Knightley as Elizabeth Bennet.

Which aftershave do you wear?
Issey Miyake.

What have been your most memorable London meals?
Smoked salmon and scrambled eggs in South Kensington with my former girlfriend Caroline in 1986; trying to kiss Joan Collins after lunch at Chez Gerard in 1998; lobster with ginger and spring onion at the Mandarin Kitchen with Dixie in 2004.
GLOBETROTTING
Where were the last three places you went on holiday?
Laos, Syria and Belfast.
MAYOR FOR THE DAY
What would you do if you were Mayor for the day?
Make everyone go naked.

Things that make me euphoric and full of love for my fellow citizens. I like listening to stand-up sets by Bill Hicks.

Books from the Flashman series by George MacDonald Fraser. I get all my books from Waterstones on Notting Hill Gate.
MEMORY LANE
What is your earliest London memory?
