In my search for more information on the whys and wherefore of delays with the release of The Soloist I came across Rama's SCREEN .
Rama was lucky enough to see the film so I got the idea to write him and ask a few questions...like who is Tom actually playing? Rama is an incredibly nice guy and got right back to me. He first apologized for the delay (he took 2 hours to get back to me...haha...because he was looking at Thomagination )
He also apologized for not being able to remember that detail but he did say this:
...The thing is, I watched THE SOLOIST about 3 months ago or so... by the way, it was a very heartfelt and inspiring movie, I'm glad I attended the test screening.. and I've only seen it once since then,.... but I do remember Hollander being in there and yes,.. he played a fellow Cellist of the LA Philharmonic who collaborates with journalist Lopez (Downey Jr.) to try to help rehabilitate Ayers (Foxx) by giving Ayers a chance to perform his musical talent again.
So the character is clear and certain...
now...
As far as the name of Hollander's character,.. that's what I can barely remember,... IMDB lists him as Graham Claydon while Wikipedia lists him as Peter Snyder.. and unfortunately, The official site for THE SOLOIST isn't much help.
I remember at one point in the movie, either Lopez or Ayers was holding the business card of Tom Hollander's character and the camera took a brief shot of that business card and the name written on it.
If it's any consolation, I checked with at least 3 other websites and most of them list Tom Hollander as Graham Claydon instead of Peter Snyder
Since the movie has been pushed back all the way to 2009, due to commercial reasons, an info which I'm sure you've read on my website, I don't think there'll be another screening anytime soon that I can attend again to confirm what the exact name of Hollander's character was in this movie.
I apologize if I couldn't be more help and I heard that AFI festival won't be showing THE SOLOIST anymore so I'm sorry you won't get to see it anytime soon but I sure hope you will eventually.
I'm very upset and very disappointed over Paramount's decision to push the movie to next year.
If it had been released this year, This movie alone could've easily given Jamie Foxx a second Oscar nomination....
So..."Civic Duty" and all, I wanted to share his review of The Soloist with all of you. I also asked him to keep a lookout for info on Valkyrie and In the Loop.
