Lily Allen (daughter of Keith Allen ) is a fan of Tom - this was on Twitter This is super cute since Simon Foster picked Lily as a person he would like to be stranded with on a desert island. Speaking of, did anyone else get some major Simon deja vu from this week's episode? Says the wrong thing in a public forum, the big guys send in a pro to help him turn his image around... I loved seeing Hugh and Tom together again! They were both so great in Freezing.

Excellent clip of Tom with his new friend, but poor Colin looks really forlorn And did I see the Archdeacon actually drink something just at the end of the clip?

Athough the DVD of Rev isn’t available to buy until 25th October, I see that the series is available to buy on iTunes. The first three episodes are ready to download now and future episodes will download as they become available.

The first three episodes are ready to download now and future episodes will download as they become available. Unfortunately only on UK iTunes. Trust me, I tried when they first announced it. Also, I asked Imogen (Mrs. Kenton Allen) if she knew if the DVD would have extras and she was pretty sure it will.

Doesn’t seem possible but it’s the final episode of Rev this coming Monday. I’ve just got my Radio Times and in this episode “Adam suffers a crisis of confidence after he gets a negative review of one of his speeches on a website and he sits at home in his pants watching daytime TV. He also makes an unholy spectacle of himself at vicars and tarts party”! Sounds brilliant!!

I love Twitter! I saw that and today it was retweeted by Jimmy Akingbola (he plays the crackhead Mick) I tweeted to him how great his performance is and sent him a link to Thomagination and got this back: @deb_olliff Thank you so much Deb! Tom Hollander is an amazing actor..was great working with him..hope we get to do season 2..more of mick:) And now he is following me! BTW, he is actually kind of cute when he is not playing a crazed crackhead! Well, I FINALLY got to see Rev this weekend and oh, my goodness! Was that Mick character ever so hilarious and beautifully screwed-up! The "character actors" in this series really took the cake. (Just like Tom has done so many times before, yet so often still is classified as a "character actor!") I love that there seems to be an intent for the parishioners not to simply "add flavor" or comic relief or create a backdrop, what have you. The writers seem to still treat them as major roles, as they should in a Vicar's life, (a.k.a. "calling"), while Adam and Alex grapple with trying to define their own version of a "real-imaginary-non-life of a Vicar-and-Wife" and all the expectations they place on themselves. It is this microcosmic community that is the center of the message: how all of them, together, with all their imperfections, assemble a patchwork of perfect imperfection.
OH, I just cannot get enough of Colin! I don't know how much of it is intentional or if it's just my own experiences influencing my perception of the intentional/unintentional elements of the show, but I think Colin is a metaphor for God, woven everywhere into the dialogue. He's what society considers a 'non-person', he's always there for Adam, concerned about every detail of Adam's life, can't "make" Adam do anything but influences Adam through his conscience and reflection, and he's almost NEVER "convenient" or how one would "expect" a human being to behave - just as we humans have so many expectations of God, and the way Adam struggles constantly with the expectations made of him and those he has of himself. This is the great theological struggle of Man throughout the ages, isn't it? I mean, come on! Adam is "Adam" - that surely must be the reason they changed the original name of Tom's character from Andrew.
Wow! Tom has really outdone himself with this piece of work. I cannot commend him and his co-creators enough for how they handled Christianity, (Anglican, Catholic, Evangelical, et al), religion in general, and Man's compulsion for disingenuousness: Darren, Lionpaw, "I-Con" the rapping false idol of Darren's vapid brood of smoothie-slurping vipers, the Archdeacon operating more like a regional manager of a fast food franchise than a mentor and spiritual leader, and poor Adam himself when he has his crisis of faith after confronting his "separateness" and loneliness. It was all just so beautifully done that the humor made me SCREAM with delight wherever it found its way back into the storyline!
They really did not shy away from opening up many, many cans of theological and ideological worms! They also did it with the respect, dignity, thoughtfulness and care deserving of the issues, while not downplaying or degrading them with the humorous elements but rather enhancing them with humor. IMHO, for a first series to have pulled this much content off so well, it is more than deserving of a few more rounds! I just hope the BBC sees this program's potential this time and doesn't let us all fall flat on our faces like they did with our beloved Leon and "Freezing" last time.
Moments that were most precious to me: - Adam's remark about being "...a remnant..." and so "...terribly, terribly underwhelmed..." - his lesson to Colin about the Golden Spiral of the Nautilus being evidence of order in a world where there is no reason for order to be in it, and all the other things science alone cannot explain pointing us to keep searching our spiritual frontiers... - Adam's mini-breakdown ("...why are there no more bumblebees? Why do African women get raped every day by boy soldiers going to get water for their starving village?") then lying on the couch all day waiting for God to "show up" (he looked EXACTLY like I did all those months that I was out of work and had finally run out of things with which to "keep myself busy" to prevent me from alternately pitying myself and putting myself down)... - inserting the posit that "No! Jesus is NOT always the answer!" in a moment of humor which I believe to be a challenge the show has made, begging for a response... - and my favorite exchange of all: "Colin isn't vital to ANYBODY! - - except God." and that that alone was enough.
It was so encouraging to see a program that actually explored the inner thought life of a man undergoing his own Virgin's Swoon trying to give (re)birth to his congregation while struggling under the crushing weight of reconciling his own spiritual life to all the conundrums, tragedy and mundanity of life here on planet earth. By the time Episode 6 was over, I very much resembled Adam lying on one of the pews.
Thank you, Tom! What a production! What a performance! "Bless you!"
