hello everybody! i'm lilly from berlin and just joined this fine little group. i'm sorry, but my english is a bit rusty, since i haven't quite talked or written it for years... ;D i'm glad to see, that there are so many enthusiastic tom-hollander-fans all around the world, sharing their information, pictures, videos and whatsoever with us. thank you! in germany, tom hollander isn't really known (though he was shooting valkyrie here in berlin), so, the first time i recognized him was in POC (okay, that was before valkyrie... btw: didn't watch valkyrie, cause a) i don't like the other tom in this movie, b) it's a very serious and ambivalent issue over here and as far as i have read they made a hollywood-blockbuster-super-hero-movie out of it (am i wrong?) and c) i don't like the other tom in this movie! ). and then i remembered, that i've seen him before... i just had to remove the wig in my thoughts and - tadaaa - of course, it was in "gosford park"! from that day on, i tried to find some information about him, but those i found were quite confusing, cause the german sources wrote different things about him than the english ones. nevertheless i started to watch further movies with him. i really liked him in "cambrigde spies" and "in the loop". i couldn't stand his role in "the soloist" (what a waste! ). but let's see, what will come up next. greetings from germany! lilly

Hello!!
I'm from Berlin too ^__^ Welcome!!
(Cruise is also not my favourite. *screw up my mouth*) I like amongst other things "Land of the Blind". Have you seen the film?

Welcome Lilly! I see you and Ani have found each other!
Your English may be "rusty" as you say but it works for me. We are all very understanding and forgiving here and there are lots of different countries represented as you can see from our flags. Its a fun and friendly place.
I liked what you had to say about the various films. I completely agree with The Soloist (anyone here will tell you how I feel about that). As far as Valkyrie is concerned I can understand your feelings about that as well. Tom Cruise is not really a very good actor. As for being a blockbuster? I don't think it was a great as they thought it was. There was some really nice things said—respect-wise— on the DVD extras. Of course our Tom was wonderful in it. Rent it sometime and skip to HIS parts. It's worth it for that. hehe.
Stick with us—we do our research here because we like to be accurate.
Glad you introduced yourself! ~Deb

... just a quick reply before i have to go to university (got to write a test in history of art )... thanks for that nice welcome! @ ani: wow, another one from berlin! great! ;D maybe we will meet sometime at a cinema to watch a tom-hollander-movie... i have seen "land of the blind", liked his part but not the whole movie. i had the feeling, that the makers of the film couldn't decide wether it is a satire or a drama. it was a bit strange in my opinion... @ beckettologist: concerning valkyrie, well, i'm still not convinced (it's more like a personal vendetta against mr. cruise, grrrr! just can't support him! ... i'm a big child as you see...) though OUR tom was wonderful in it (of course he was, would never doubt it ;D). maybe i will have a look when i'm really bored (and when i have watched all his other movies, hehe). lilly

Welcome Lilly! I haven't been here very long myself, but everyone is very welcoming...and your English is fantastic, so don't worry about it. I can't stand Tom Cruise either(nutcase) but have got Valkyrie(it was being sold very cheaply from my supermarket, so I thought, why not.) I understand that it would be a very difficult film for you to watch though, and our Tom is only in it for a few short scenes, so you are not really missing anything, though there are a lot of other fine actors in it to keep your attention off Cruise! Glad you enjoyed his other roles though. Do take a look at the video clips and photo discoveries sections as you will find lots of goodies. This is a lovely one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=mS4oUE9lvrk

Hi Lilly! It's great to meet you. I loved what you said about Land of the Blind! It's one of the movies that I so want to like, but I too feel like the filmmakers didn't know their own vision.
Welcome, welcome, and we're glad to have you here!
Sara
P.S. Your English is great!

oh girls, you're all so sweet! glad to hear, that my english isn't as bad as i supposed it (well, no major faults yet ). just a last comment on valkyrie: of course there are many great actors in it (great british and also some great german actors! btw: thomas kretschmann (who portrays major otto ernst remer) was the original choice to play von stauffenberg, before cruise and singer joined the production... think about it ). but this story lives of its maincharacter and cruise just failed. and furthermore the film didn't mention von stauffenberg's idea of a post-hitler-germany, that would have never been a democracy (that's why i mentioned it to be an ambivalent issue). but back to topic! @ greeneyedgirl: what a sweet clip, i really enjoyed it! love his shy smile! @ trickypixie: so i'm not the only one who felt like that about "land of the blind". it just didn't fit, don't you think? @ lady beckett: i'm just curious: how's the weather in brazil? cause here in berlin it's so awfully cold, brrrrr! what a nice bunch! ;D lilly

That is interesting about Thomas Kretschmann! He would have been a much better choice. My man complaint about Cruise is that he can't really act. I am pretty sure he is hired for his looks and bankability because he is the same in everything. Just my opinion.

@ lady beckett: i'm just curious: how's the weather in brazil? cause here in berlin it's so awfully cold, brrrrr! lilly Lilly, Sorry I have not responded to you before. Here in Brazil is summer until March 21. Then comes the fall. It's too hot here, now. But I live in the south (border with Argentina), where it is very cold in winter, but of course not as cold as in Berlin. Kisses ~Lady Beckett
