On this the eve of Tom's birthday I have a topic for discussion. Why are you here?
I often think about how many people do not get my interest in Tom. Do you ever get that from clueless people? They don't understand what it is about him that makes us want to see every movie—no matter how miniscule or dastardly the role—and hear every word he utters and know what he is up to (at least theatrically) at all times. What is the attraction for you?
The obvious answer is that everyone has different tastes in their entertainment choices. I would no more watch a Vin Deisel movie than jump off a cliff but there are people who worship him or any number of other so-called actors (hope I am not offending any Diesel fans).
So what is it about Tom Hollander that you love? Some of this came out in the participants of the TBP. Many of you have voiced how you first came to be attracted to him but I think it would be interesting to compare thoughts on this.
I can break the ice if that helps... Why am I here? Especially when I once said I would never ever have a "forum". Some of you know I was ignoring my own motto which is "never say never". Well Hollanderia is a child of Thomagination if you will. A full year younger in age and again it was at the urging of Irene (Redwine for those of you that are new here) She actually set it up and for that I am grateful. But it all began for me before Thomagination was born which all came about because there was no website for him that was comprehensive and respectful. All of this is on the welcome page of Thomagination so I will not rehash it all.
When I think about what it is about Tom that endears him to me the most it has to be two main things. Although he is an incredibly gifted actor who can act circles around so many that get much more attention (often undeserved) and accolades— it is his voice and his humility. Having been blessed (and it was a blessing of being in the right place at the right time with much patience) to have met him I can tell you that he is a genuinely humble person. But I won't go on about that.
His voice is incredible to me. I don't know how he does what he does with it. It simply amazes me. I could listen to him all day and it would not matter what the words were but when he reads a good story it transports me into another world. And in this world we live in at the current time that is a blessing in itself!
Anyone else care to join in?

Deb, I want to say some things, but I ask you to forgive me because my English is level 2 yet, so if there are errors very ugly in my writing, you can edit. No problem. I knew Tom's work when I watched P & P, and it was so weird because all the girls fall in love for Mr. Darcy, but I was delighted for Mr. Collins. I think I would have married him. Yes, I swear, I prefer Mr. Collins than Mr. Darcy. Do not know why, but his image made me melted. He looked someone who needed care. I would love to put him in my lap and pet him. Then after I started to watch others work and I know that I watch any movie, nor he does make a little character or just talk... I don't care, I watch. Here in Brazil, I participate in a forum where I have a page dedicated to he, I write about him in my blog, my Orkut has many photos of him, my photobucket too, my wallpaper is a picture of him. I think I'm in love with him. I've never been with him (unfortunately), but I can see in the videos, interviews, Premier ... He seems to be a very polite, friendly and attentive to his fans. And, of course, he is a brilliant actor, able to play any character without much effort. Happy Birthday Tom, You are fantastic!

That is genuine love lady´s ^_^
At first, the idea is once again great!
But its not easy to answer. OK, I would begin with my favourite song: Smile composed by Charles Chaplin (Voice: Nat King Cole). In the past I had many troubles (Casualties etc.). This song is for me a thing like philosophy of life. I had worked three years in a hospital as I was aged 17. (child psychiatry, oncology, with alcoholics etc.) It was a hard time – but still great. I met so many different people and fates. And sometimes I asked myself in what is the meaning! I felt often lonely because many people don´t interested. Humans often pass the time useless and other humans count their residual time. I learned to love my life and to watch out for other people. And now my important point: There is good guys and bad guys. I think Tom is a good guy. When Im felling lonely, I know around of the world are good guys to spend a smile for me.
That´s the reason because Im here.
“Spend some time with it...just a couple of minutes a day.”
Thanks and Happy Birthday!

I am here at these forums specifically because I want to know what he's doing next and because I have always liked him a lot. It's just that before it would just be per-chance - oooh Tom Hollander is in that or - ooh there he is! Now I'm hunting stuff down with him in it.
Must say that one about Martha was a whole load of rubbish, he should have been cast as the romantic lead not old plank of wood Joe Fiennes, anyway enough-a that.
I first noticed Tom back when Wives and Daughters was on air - well I subconsciously noticed him because every other time I saw him I thought "oh he was good" but never actually connected that all those parts were actually by the same actor until a while later, I can't remember when exactly. Anyway.
And I like him because he is just insanely gifted (quite cute and adorable more so because of his personality and that he's a brilliant actor and talent is very attractive) but so normal. I love how he chooses comfortable clothes over looking snazzy and that his hair always seems to look a little bit like he's been electrocuted. And that whenever he has a picture taken he has his hands stuffed hin his pockets. His interviews are also very interesting to read, he's very funny and incredibly nice.
Also I have noticed, the people who like Tom are people I happen to like too and who like quality over the normal tinned celebrities.

I have to admit that I was not sure that many would respond to this post. Thank you all for your wonderful replies. Reading your thoughts on this has reminded me of why I continue to keep Hollanderia running. It is all of you. Tom brought us all together from nearly every corner of the world. I have made so many friends and I enjoy our cozy little home here...like a treehouse where we all meet to giggle, ohhh and ahhh and look forward to new things. Sometimes we bring gifts to share...finds of photos or new projects that pop up. There are times when it is slow and I sometimes get discouraged by the lack of participation but I know that the true "fans" (I hate that word) or admirers of this wonderful man will stick with me even if they only pop in occasionally and the others will fall by the wayside as fair-weather fans. We have many members here that have never posted for whatever reason. That is OK. Some people are shy or perpetual lurkers and will come out when they are ready. Anyway, I thank you all for being here. You, as well as Tom, have enriched my life beyond measure and it gives me so much pleasure to share all this. Must say that one about Martha was a whole load of rubbish, he should have been cast as the romantic lead not old plank of wood Joe Fiennes, anyway enough-a that. FYI...Tom mentions in an interview awhile back that he actually wanted to play the role of Frank.

Weellllllll, To end I want to reply, sorry so much for my delay but IM SO BUSY WITH THE HOSPITAL. But first thing I want said excuses for my english that sometimes it is a disaster, i speak better spanish What can I say about Mr. Hollander who even has not been said?... Today I feel inspired to say everything what I think with regard to him, to be completely frank and sincere as I it have always been. It is possible that he not between in the canons of beauty of Hollywood, it is possible that he is neither so nice nor attractive like Brad Pitt or like the nice men of the current movies. Tom is always Tom, no man can be like he in his way of feeling, of seeing, of acting and of giving so entertaining moments when we, his most faithful followers it see in movie theater or in TV. To see his tiny figure to move with this ease, with slow and elegant movements, the expression of his eyes that is always hypnotize, the sweetness which sight, a sweetness mixed with the picaresque, a slight sign of shamelessness that of course he hides as it is it who is a reality in the intimacy and it is better to say... Uhhhh this boy is a danger (Please girls... run to drink cold water glass hahahahah). The way with which he acts is impeccable, unpolluted and immaculate, in any scene we can see him tired or in the state of not being able to resist the pressure or the nerves, he is always a professional, it it has always been, a sponge that there absorbs each of his personages, all of the personages who are his and that of course he has something of each one of them. We unfortunately cannot be with him the whole day, although sure he that might go out running after being surrounded by so many woman each of a side different with the world, to be able to sit down with him in a big table of a typical english pub, to drink wine until the dawn and to speak each one in our language... might be a delightful madness!!!.... It can that let's not be able to be with him like his most faithful friends, but... we have it to him ladies have his presence because he knows of our existence. For my Tom Hollander it is everything what I have found in a real actor, the actor who has always made me laugh or to cry, with him we have laughed and cried, have felt sad or happy. This way I can say that he has never been so close to us as now.

Although personally I thought the whole story was stupid to be honest, no one falls in love like that it was just so unbelievable and badly made. And what did Frank have that was so attractive? All he did was stand there and stare blankly. Tom would have given him some personality and sweetness. And it would have been a lot better to have had her fall for the one who wasn't a Hollywood hunk. But oh well.

I think there was prejudice in this movie, because Tom is not tall.
