My DVD was shipped yesterday from good old Amazon but let me just say that I think Tom's talent was wasted in this film. I liked it but there should have been more of him. But then we say that about every Hollander role don't we.BTW...I was chastised elsewhere (many of you will recall) for saying to go see it for the costumes. Sorry. Can't help it. They were amazing. The film was not as spectacular as I hoped it would be but that was not Tommy's fault. The official website was far more impressive than the film in my opinion.

Suednim...your avatar is quite possibly the sexiest thing I have ever seen.
And about Elizabeth...I agree, the hype was better than the movie. I think Elizabeth I was a far superior watch, though compared with the quality of many movies these days, I'd have to say Golden Age was very good. The costuming, mis-en-scene and music were well worth the $12.50 AU to see it at the cinema..
Unfortunate about the considerable lack of Tom, but he did stand out:P

Why, thank you, louise beckett, the avatar was made for me by a very dear fellow webmistress! She knew exactly what shot to grab for me (no pun intended).
You are spot on regarding your observations of Elizabeth 1 & 2. The first movie was superior in many regards and 2 I found dragging on too long. Only the occasional glimpses of Tom kept me going. In fact, when my hubby watches it, I listen in the kitchen and then run in just to see the "Tom" scenes! ;D Hubby is a very long-suffering man.

Don will sometimes be flipping the channel when I am in the kitchen and come upon a Tommy Flick...I run in and he laughs "I was wondering how long it would take you..." Did you check out that deleted scene in Golden Age yet? It is the first one. Glad you like your lil' Paolo!

I finally got around to buying this DVD! The first deleted scene is terrific...I honestly don't understand why they cut it
The one thing about Tom's character is annoys me, is that the historical Amyas Paulet was a lot more ruthless...and obviously very cold toward Mary. He's much too...nice...in the movie!

I agree Lou, but it would be hard to imagine Tom as a *real* bady....Even Cuttles isn't that bad...really...even when he trys to be bad and mean, he has a smirk on his face......
Actually i wouldn't mind seeing Tom get a part that is a real psychotic maniac....That would be interesting.....He always seems to get the roles that are sweet and little and cute....am i totally off base here or does that sound right?

That does sound right. Even his "bad guys" (aka...Cuttles, Maximilian, MacHeath (TP Opera), Ewan Proclaimer...etc) have there lovable aspects. Cuttles has an exceptional amount of lovable aspects.
Still, would have been interesting to see Amyas Paulet played in a different light.
