LATE BREAKING News...of the disappointing variety... this will teach me to believe stuff I read at a certain henhouse...After I posted (below) I got an email from Danny, the author (see below). I wanted to tell him how much I enjoyed the first chapter and I also had inquired as t whether there would be an audio version...(hint, hint). Hi Deb Actually the programme was aired on 16th January and Tom was a guest and yes he was very positive about the book. Unfortunately I have already recorded the audio book myself but I am sure he would have done a better job than me. Best Danny ScheinmannSo...apparently we have missed it. And it was on my anniversary too! Original Post:Over in the "Freezing" thread we were disussing Tom's upcoming appearance (scheduled for Feb 14). Upon further investigation we have discovered that the reason he is appearing is to review the current book that is featured. It is called Random Acts of Heroic Love by Danny Scheinmann. Tom Hollander Also reviewing this week’s title is Tom Hollander, who has starred in Gosford Park, Pirates of the Caribbean and Elizabeth the Golden Age. Richard & JudyAs I have never seen this show I have no idea what it is like...I have been told that most will not admit to watching...however...we are not adverse to watching anything that may have Tommy sitting in the guest chair giving his opinions... ...are we?Incidentally...if you go to Danny's (beautifully done website) you can read the first chapter. Needless confession: I ordered the book.Looking forward to this.

You never know, it may be a repeat (they have to fill their airtime some way, right??). It seems to be some kind of thing where people vote for their favourite book... or something: The Big Read 2008Here's Tom's book: Randoms Acts of Heroic Love entry

Well I hope it is repeated. I feel so utterly deflated over this. As if we invited him to a party and he said he was coming but then changed his mind... At least I will read the book. Imagining Tom's voice reading, as I so often do. It looks good if the first chapter is any indication. Danny was sure nice to answer me...and so quickly too.

Now this is very, very strange. For my sins, I record this show to my hard drive every day and wizz through it to see if there is anyone I am interested in. I really would have noticed both Jessica and Tom if they had been reviewing a book. The week before last they had Sam West and Charity Wakefield. I also remember Peter Davidson recently. I KNOW I would have seen Tom. Once in a blue moon, my recorder messes up but I don't remember that happening at all this year. Ah well, I shall be recording that day anyway. Perhaps it was pre-recorded and Danny just assumed it was aired the same day. Fingers still gently crossed.

hmm - well on closer look. The R & J website page for Tom and Jessica does say Week 2 in the url which would make sense for the January entry They have a picture of all the books in the series and Tom's is the second from the top. All things point to the likelihood that I/we DID miss that show BUT I am going to keep my fingers crossed that he is going to be on the show anyway, talking about Freezing (which was my original thought before the Book Club thing came to light). Today’s show – Thursday 14th FebruaryTom Hollander, star of the ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ films and ‘Elizabeth: The Golden Age’ joins Richard & Judy to talk about his latest venture: ‘Freezing’. It is a modern, urban comedy about what happens when fame and promise start to fade away. Look at that beautiful smile!
