I was researching 'my other beau' yesterday in the reference library and I took a couple of Tom's relevant dates with me to see what I could find. I didn't get much and I have to apologise for the terrible quality but I did get this listing for John Diamond. Not sure if you have seen pictures from this before...... Click to enlarge

Click to enlargeThanks for posting this, PE. What a great find! I think this has to be the youngest image I have seen of Tom. As I think I mentioned when you emailed, young Tommy looks about how I imagined. I wonder how old he was in that photo. I know he was 14 when he did John Diamond but he looks much younger there! Giggle. What an adorable child. Think his baby pics will ever turn up? Probably not...unless we sit down with his mom and her photo album...(sorry...went off the deep end there). Thanks so much! XXX

But he .... with his age is better....... he is more MAN!!!! You're right, Maria! He has improved with age (that sounds horrible, like I'm comparing him with wine or something). But he was still a pretty cute kid. If I was 14 when he was, I probably would have been quite smitten with him Now I'm a bit more than smitten

WOW - What a scoop to find that 'John Diamond' slot on the BBC TV pages...I was AMAZED when I saw it on Thomagination!! Excellent! I was but a wee child back then in school, but I can remember this 'title'...it's really familiar...I'm truly amazed! There is no doubt about it...THIS is the site for all Tom Hollander info!

Here is something that needs filing under the "sweetest boy" category. If these things keep popping up we may need a separate thread...I am currently reading Julia Hollander's book "When the Bough Breaks: A Mother's Story". I hesitated on this as it is a not a happy story. It is, however, very well written and thought provoking. There are little glimpses into Tom's childhood sprinkled in as recalled by his older sister. There is one particular image that I can't get out of my mind is her recollection of Tom (probably age 8-9 since Julia is two and a half years older) singing "Where is Love?" with choir boy innocence in a school production of "Oliver." Sigh.
Now...where did we park that time machine?
Even though the subject is tough I highly recommend this book.

Aren't you glad that I didn't do a spoiler on that. I couldn't wait for you to read that part! His sister was very proud of him as are we!
It is tough to read, but worth it. They did make it thru to the other side - thank God for Tania!

I think I was 11 when i did that song at the school concert. Ah yes...age 11... I was dancing to things like Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Peter and the Wolf...age 12 I told my parents that I really did not care for ballet lessons that much. I always wished I could sing though...and play the piano. I wonder if Tom plays the piano? Or any instrument other than his recent cello lessons for The Soloist.

I wonder if Tom plays the piano? Or any instrument other than his recent cello lessons for The Soloist. I'm pretty sure he can play the piano. I remember him playing it in Cambridge Spies (at Anthony's birthday party). Also in W&D...which you don't see, but after cambridge spies i believe it was him playing.... Also, in A Good Year, he kids around with the blow up guitar...lol...he looks pretty comfortable with it.. (pure speculation, but perhaps he has guitar talents also ) Tom sure is a well rounded guy.... it wouldn't surprise me if he could play a harp, harmonica, and drum kit all at the same time!...
