Woohoo!!!! Congratulations in the highest order, Deb (and, I know how you want us to remember Don and Irene, too)! What a thrill and a huge compliment. And, it is well-deserved!! The best part is that Tom will be able to see how much people love him and admire his talent! Everyone (including Tom) will be just blown away with how much he has accomplished as an actor and a fine human being. So now, whenever he has a down day, he can just come to thoimagination and be encouraged (and not so hard on himself).
What a wonderful feeling to see him acknowledge your site, Deb. How satisfying that must be and now we KNOW he has lurked. *hee-hee*
My head is in the clouds, luv you all topaz

Hollandazed, that is a BEAUTIFUL image you have there in your sig file. Did you make it?? Gorgeous... Hi Redwine! Thanks for the compliment! I did make this sig file. The picture was taken while I was in Austria in the spring of 2006. This is one of the rooms in Mozart's birth house in Salzburg. A special exhibition was created there by American designer Robert Wilson for the "Mozart Year" (the 250th birthday anniversary), which plays upon the light the artist sensed in his music. While it is merely wishful thinking on my part that Tom play the role of Mozart (whether on stage in Schaffer's "Amadeus" or preferably in a new biopic about the composer), I also figured that the period atmospheric was appropriate for a Beckett graphic.

Oh my gosh, what a wonderful suggestion! Hollander as Mozart....! I guess at this point maybe we'd have to use Tom Lehrer's old line about "by the time Mozart was my age, he'd been dead for 8 years".....
....but still! In concept, what a wonderful idea....
I love that picture. Wow, it makes me want to see that installation....
One of the plays Tom was cast in used a similar visual idea -- the writing all over the walls as a statement ...somebody help me out here -- which play was it? ...every square inch of the set was covered in writing, to signal the power of gossip... it was kind of received unevenly, but such an interesting and unsettling idea.
[added later]: It ws School for Scandal! "Newsprint covers the stage and the cut-out backdrop even the chairs in John Gunter's setting, representing the London scandal sheets of the time."
So, not "writing", but hey. Same basic principle. Hehe.

So, not "writing", but hey. Same basic principle. Hehe. Hi Redwine! ;D The application of newspaper medium for the School for Scandal production was a great idea. What symbolism! I believe the writing on the wall in my photo (sig pic) is either letter correspondence of Mozart's or libretti from one of his operas. Not sure! I'll have to check on that! Thanks for the amusing Tom Lehrer quote! While it’s true that Hollander is now slightly older than Mozart was at the time of his death, it’s only a matter of a few years, (and still less for Tom given his blessing of remaining youthfulness or “youngish”ness as the media refer to it. ) Mozart was just over a month away from his 36th birthday when he died and Tom is only 40, so I would at least like to believe it is still possible for a few more years anyway! Quick! Where’s that script? Contrary to what might be interpreted or assumed of Mozart’s final year, 1791 was not one of a black decline but was very prolific. Many of his most famous works were composed during this time, his financial situation was improving and Mozart was hopeful for the future and still very much in love with his wife Constanze as illustrated in his beautiful and eloquent (and sometimes playfully mischievous!) letters to her when they were apart. I think Tom taking on the role of Mozart would challenge him to utilize his wide range of amazingly instinctive qualities and intelligence in creating this complex character and his final days: a juvenile, cherubic innocence of eternal youth, a musical genius exuding enlightenment, vulnerability, love and tenderness with a touch of swaggering pomposity. Of course there’s also Tom’s physical description (blondish-brown hair, diminutive stature and “good calves” ) and the exhibited naturalness with which he inhabits period context (rocking the 18 c. propriety, brocade and wig a la Beckett!) At any rate, I think it would be a great opportunity for Tom to showcase his own intelligence, musical talent and emotional range reflective of this beloved composer. I could see his whit, gentlemanly charm and playfulness really coming to life in this role!

I actually came accross this article just yesterday, and was so chuffed for Deb and all the others who contribute when he gave it a plug. Maybe he reads our wafflings on here too...it must be good for his ego at the very least!
