Does anyone know about this? When I saw it I nearly fell out of my chair. Is it old news that never came about? Here is an excerpt from the interview with Jessica Hynes: Q. What’s next for you?Jessica Hynes: I’m in a film called Faintheart, which is probably going to be out next year, and I’m working on writing two films of my own. I’m also doing a play at the Old Vic. They’re doing The Norman Conquests, which is an Alan Ayckbourn trilogy that hasn’t been performed for 30 years. They’re performing it in the round at the Old Vic, so it will be performing three plays in rep. Tom Hollander and Eddie Marsan are in it as well. It’s kind of comedy, but subtle and it should be a lot of fun. I know it’ll be fun working with those guys. And Matthew Orchard is directing it, so I think it’s going to be a really good show. Kevin Spacey will also probably be loitering around somewhere [laughs]. I haven’t met him yet but I’m looking forward to it. www.indielondon.co.uk/Film-Review/son-of-rambow-jessica-hynes-interviewNeed to know...must start saving and planning a trip to London!Correction to name of director!According to our alert member in London (Prior Engagement) that director should be Matthew Warchus! Not Orchard. Sloppy journalism on whomever transcribed that interview with Jessica. Thanks for catching that PE!

My god, she's right -- I saw it on PBS years ago -- it can't be thirty!-- and I've never forgotten it.
But has it really never been performed since?? It's so great!
It is a fascinating trilogy: the same story told from three different points of view. If a door slams in the background of act one, by the end of act two you've found out who slammed it, and why. By the end of act three you know Norman rather well than you ever hoped to... It IS very funny, but also hilariously uncomfortable and just -- wonderfully written. If Tom were to play Norman, you'd lie down on the floor twitching and foaming for it to go on. And on.....
Tom Conti played Norman in the version that was televised...and that was quite wonderful enough! But, oooh.
I'll check on that article -- we'll get a date. Dr. Content races to the scene.. [Added:] Looks like she was getting interviewed about "upcoming film" Faintheart on March 25, so if this is happening -- I think you caught it first, Deb! Also: that article went up 14 hours ago -- as of this writing.... no date, otherwise! Dr. Content is OUT.

This does sound intriguing...It has been too long since I have been to the theatre. I shall have to stow away should the mistress be fortunate enough to see it. She was beside herself when she received this news...apparently this is a particular favourite of hers.
By the way...has anyone seen Larry?

This sounds excellent! I'm hoping they're talking about it really far in advance (say, three years in advance;D) so I that I will be doing my PhD at Oxford (or Cambridge) when it is on....
I so terribly want to see this

I so terribly want to see this Well I have it on good authority that it will probably ( and hopefully) be this fall... what would be perfect is if the timing was right to also include the 24 Hour Plays Gala...

I have it on pretty good authority (Alan Ayckbourn's website) that the casting is not set in stone yet. I guess we have to wait until we hear an announcement from the Old Vic. Fingers are still crossed though.

The offical announcement is up on the Old Vic's website now, and there's no mention of Tom: www.oldvictheatre.com/whatson.php?id=46 Though I have to admit I'm still psyched because I also love Stephen Mangan!

You beat me to it Faeriequeen! I was just there last night so they must have posted it this morning. I had been in contact with the webmaster at Alan Ayckbourn's site and he told me that he had seen the cast and that Tom was not listed but was waiting to see what Old Vic announced. However...I do see that there is no casting for "Tom" the character...maybe there is still hope? That would be wild wouldn't it? Tom as Tom...even though I so wanted him to be Norman. Oh well. Stephen will be great I am sure though I doubt I will come to see it just for him...unless we just happen to be there.
