Irene and I would like to thank you for joining our little family of Tom admirers. Introduce yourself here if you feel like it. No pressure though...lurking is fine but joining in the conversation is more fun. How did YOU discover Tom Hollander?Being a big Johnny Depp fan the first thing I saw him in was The Libertine. Then when I saw the teasers for POTC Dead Man's Chest I realized he looked familiar... you know the scene... "Jack Sparrow must find his place in the world or perish..." and I had to look him up to see what else he had been in. The rest is history. I have now seen all of his films and one live play (Landscape with Weapon), met him in person and felt compelled to promote him in my own humble way. Thus with the help of the clandestine librarian, Irene, Thomagination was born. Interestingly we later discovered that the day I officially launched it (August 26th) was the day after Tom's birthday. What is your story?

I'm not entirely certain but I think I discovered Tom in 2004. It was probably a combination of watching Martha, Meet Frank, Daniel and Lawrence a lot (I had just discovered Rufus Sewell and was 'slightly' infatuated) and perhaps cathing either Cambridge Spies or The Lost Prince on tv that started to peak my interest in Tom. I must have turned into a proper fan in 2005 and was pushed over the edge that summer when I 'met' him at the 24 Hour Plays in London. Have been happily ensconced on Team Hollander ever since.

I first remember taking notice of Tom when my mom and I saw The Libertine. I pointed at him and told her, "See that guy, he's going to be the villain in the next two Pirates."
I liked Georgie, but Jack, Johnny and Richard were very distracting so it wasn't until DMC that I realized...I LIKE Tom. I even liked Beckett and I hated Beckett in the scripts and spoilers for the Pirates, but the way Tom played him...I found it impossible to continue hating him.
Now, I'm a Jane Austen fan...my birthday possibly plays a part, but I don't like Arthur C Clarke or Philip K thingy writings that well...and the 2005 version of Pride & Prejudice was okay, really nice cinematography but couldn't compare with the 1995 version which is THE version.
However, in my new-found obssession, I found myself suddenly wanting the dvd just because Tom was in it, but under the guise of owning Bride & Prejudice already and planning at some point to own 1995. I still tend to skip chapters sometimes to just watch the Tom parts although Mathew is quite lovely as well...but I prefer him in Spooks. Short hair is great on him.

For me, he kind of sneaked up on me. I used to hate when they would show him standing there talking to Will.."...Jack must find his place in the world or perish..." Now I find Beckett deliciously evil. Funny ol' world, innit?I only wish I would have asked Tom more about playing the character. But maybe that is a good thing...he probably gets sick of those questions. I like to think he was happy we were interested in other facets of his career like his readings and stage work.

It was in POTC-DMC. Living in the states, I don't have access to the awesomeness of the British Theatre/Stage world. (how I envy Londoners!!) However, the first thing that springs to my mind was his voice. "It moved over me like a dark river ". . . *hee-hee* to plagarize Darren in B&H, but ironically it did. Intrigued, I searched the credits to find out the actors name. Which wasn't easy because Tom's name wasn't listed where I expected to find it. His talent was undeniable, but, I really discovered Tom's charm during the Bloopers segment. His reserve and keeping a straight face when Governor Swann couldn't read the writing on the warrant . . . and then, when Tom was caught (ahem) "scratching the inside of his nose" his quick response was to jest "kill him" was so witty, funny and a quick recovery.
Eversince that time, I have bought every movie of his that I can find plus 2 audiobook: "Clockwork Orange" and "In the Company of the Courtesan". My admiration for him only continues to grow!

Hello fellow Hollanderians! It was most definitely Pirates 2 that elicited my full attention of Tom's career and his acting abilities, although it was not my first introduction to his work as I'd already seen such films as The Libertine and Gosford Park. Lord Beckett remains my favorite character!

Irene did most of the set-up so she gets the credit for being "organized". We actually got the inspiration to start the whole thing last October and it took some urging and poking to get it off the ground. Thanks to the urgers and pokers and enablers...LOL.

When did I discover Tom Hollander? Hmmm...
Had to be Lord Beckett, the most deliciously evil, sexy and downright fascinating villain since Professor Snape.
I must admit I am a rank amateur compared to our illustrious webmistress, but she has tutored me well, believe me.
I wonder if this forum could have a section for artistic endeavours including artwork, fiction, etc. That would be a nice addition.
I'll be lurking...
