Saw Hannah this opening weekend! Our favorite Hollander is delightfully sinister as Issacs, a pervy "Eurotrash" sadistic butcher who consorting with his harem of skinhead thugs trek across Europe and Morocco to hunt down and eliminate Hanna and her father at the unofficial request of the CIA. He is not your average hired gun, firstly he is clearly unstable and particularly brutal, his weapon of choice is a metal pipe but being resourceful also employs an archery set, a cargo crane, and a wicked headbutt all the while giving new meaning to the notion of whistling while you work. Tom cuts quite a menacing figure with his bleached blonde hair, heavy eyeliner, white loafers and pimp like track suits in this his most physical action oriented role I've seen him in. Delivering memorable lines like "Is that all you've got...run faster little piggy" , "What no kiss?" and "It's the Sandman...go to sleep" in at least three languages but mostly English with a slightly sleazy German accent which adds to the overall creepiness of his character. Issacs meets with a dramatic and violent end befitting his character (on a swing set no less) but not before we are privileged to an eyeful as Tom gives us pin-up like shot of his gams while sporting some tight white short shorts...very nice! Tom once again makes bad look so good...and you are forced to enjoy Issacs...hermaphrodites, midgets, white loafers, and all! So go see this film and make sure you see it in a theater with a decent sound system as the sound design including the score by The Chemical Brothers is brilliant...I could go on and discuss some of the signature Joe Wright shots and remark on the dark fairy tale quality of the piece but this is the Hollander forum and should remain so. Viva Tom!

First of all let me say welcome to foulpapers and thanks for the review. We saw it tonight too. I really enjoyed it. I can't really say much more about it that you haven't already said other than Tom employs a move that he used in "Land of the Blind". I am willing to bet that it was his own addition to the scene. Hehe. That is all I will say about it. Also, stay through the credits. Tom's voice is the last thing you will here. I wish I could remember what he says. It was something he says in the film repeated but I don't know. I tried to memorize it but I don't think I have it right. Something like schlosse scheide. We need our German members to help here. Janine? Katrin? Are you there? We need your help. As usual Tom is able to make bad look good and even though he is the vile henchman you hate to see him come to an end. Go see it.

I'm pretty sure the last line at the very end of the credits is Tom as Issacs saying "Go to sleep" a repeat of his earlier line during his encounter with the younger brother character in the tent...which would be either "shlafen zu gehen"or "seine zeit"...if I remember my high school German. P.S. Thanks...for the welcome...I'm glad to be here!

After talking with a couple of friends that speak German fluently we came to the conclusion (taking into consideration that things don't always translate directly) that he might be saying some version of "that's a wrap" as in filming lingo. But who knows. Update: Thanks to Sarah H. for paying attention at the end. He says "Schlaf wieder" (Go back to sleep). Hehe. You were right foulpapers!

Hi all! I just loved Hanna. (And I've loved The Chemical Brothers for years, so it was a quadruple treat for me with Tom, Eric Bana, the score and another superb Joe Wright production all rolled into one!) Deb's already received my instant review - had to write her immediately after I got home! - but I must share how I nearly burst out laughing when Tom pulled his, what I am calling, 'signature' move (pun intended) from The Land of The Blind. A few people nearby must have thought I was disturbed because I was clearly laughing, but I don't care! They are just not "In the Loop" eh?!
My friend hated the film, but he's picky... he says he hates everything... he thinks that's fashionable... He is my part-time project... I know it is pure folly to think I can help him.
Truth be told, I figured out that he was actually jealous of Tom! He began to pout as soon as he learned that Tom was in the movie. ("His name is Tom Hollander. Remember him from 'Gosford Park?' Well he killed someone the very same way in another film.") I'm slow, and I never pick up on things like that, (though the snide comments he made in every remaining scene of Tom's should have been my first clue. duh!) It took me a couple of days and a few more outings with him to figure it all out after hearing him explain repeatedly to others why he hated the movie so much. Every time he recalls the point at which he decided that he "...hated that film!" it is coincidentally always during the sequence immediately following the scene where I pointed Tom out to him. (after Morocco) Too FUNNY! He is not in love with me, he is a drama queen. We have been friends for 20yrs. He simply wants every woman in the world to be in love with HIM. Good God!
What's REALLY funny is the fact that if my friend had any sense at all about who he should be 'jealous' of, it should have been Eric Bana! I actually caught myself salivating at one point... and it wasn't because I wanted popcorn.

Id forgotten Tom was in this film. I started watching it again last night .... hes a nasty piece of work isnt he ... I do still expect to see him say a big cheery " " (a la Rev) everytime I see him now, so I did have a bit a grin on my face when he was on the screen.
